How do I know if my child needs a therapy service?
Your child may need a therapy service if you or someone else notices they’re not developing as expected in a way that’s having an impact on their daily life.
It’s important to note that not all children who present differently will need input. At BeMe Therapy, we’re not only child-led but also parent-led, which means we trust that no one knows your child better than you. If you feel like your child would benefit from support from a therapist, you can get in touch to find out more.
If you have been recommended specific support for your child or aren’t sure what your child might need, you can complete our contact form and we will offer tailored guidance and support.
Do you have a waiting list?
Yes, we hold a waiting list for all services here at BeMe Therapy.
While we can’t give an exact timeline on how long you would be on our waiting list, we always do our best to work through it as efficiently as possible.
When this list becomes too full, we tend to close it so that people aren’t waiting too long to be seen.
We understand that it’s frustrating to be met with a waiting list or closed caseload and will do our best to direct you in the direction of alternative supports if needed.

What happens during an assessment?
It depends on which assessment we’re doing, but we prioritise building relationships, connection, and a sense of safety before commencing any assessment. We always tend to meet your child where they’re at and go at their pace.
For younger children, parents are in the room for the assessment, but for older children, they may prefer their parent or carer out of the room. We’ll follow your child’s lead in what they feel comfortable with.
For a play-based assessment, we will play with your child and make observations on lots of different areas as they do this. It should look and feel like play to you and your child.
In more structured assessments, we will spend some time connecting with your child and there will be a series of specific tasks we will ask your child to complete which we will assess across various areas.
A typical assessment appointment tends to last anywhere between 45 to 90 minutes.
On the day, we’ll walk you through the process, ask you some questions, and offer any feedback or guidance if necessary. It’s an open space for you to ask questions and share any concerns or feedback you may have, too.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

What does “neurodiversity-affirming” mean?
At BeMe Therapy, being neurodiversity-affirming means we see neurological and developmental differences — such as autism, ADHD, language delays, or being a Gestalt Language Processor (GLP) — as a natural part of human diversity, rather than something to be “fixed” or “cured.”
We focus on supporting each child’s unique way of thinking, communicating, and experiencing the world. This approach celebrates strengths and individuality while providing strategies to help children thrive in their daily lives.
In practice, this means:
- Valuing and respecting all forms of communication, whether spoken, signed, typed, or through AAC.
- Following the child’s interests and lead in therapy to build trust, motivation, and confidence.
- Partnering with families and schools to create supportive environments, rather than trying to change the child to “fit in.”
- Using strengths-based, respectful language in all reports, resources, and conversations.
- Supporting children to develop skills at their own pace, in ways that feel safe and empowering to them.
Our goal:
To create a space where children and families feel understood, supported, and celebrated for exactly who they are — because every child’s voice matters.
